Customized Bath Soak

I was hesitant to call this post "Bath Salts" since there has been some unsavory press on that term in the recent past (Yikes!). I didn't want anyone thinking I was condoning eating people's faces, or other zombie-like activities.

Now that we have that out of the way, channel your inner spa diva! Deep, cleansing breaths, and whatnot...

This is a really easy and effective "recipe" to make your own bath soak. The main ingredients are Epsom salts, baking soda, and essential oils (optional). I love using lavender and vanilla essential oils to make a relaxing evening bath soak. It is so relaxing and helps melt the day's stress away for me.

Customized Bath Soak
3 cups Epsom salts
1 cup baking soda
10 drops essential oils

Mix ingredients well to distribute the essential oils, and store in an airtight container.

I have seen a lot of recipes call for food coloring or other coloring agents and fragrance oils, but I prefer to keep it simple. If giving as a gift or getting fancy in your home-spa, the food coloring would be an easy way to coordinate it to your decor. Without it, I know there won't be any staining of the tub or my skin. I've also seen a few recipes that call for oil to help soften your skin - almond oil, olive oil, etc. I like the sound of that, but don't like a slippery tub so I leave it out. If you do choose to add anything extra that is a liquid, be sure to let your salt mixture dry out over night on a sheet tray before storing in your airtight container. This should help avoid excessive clumping.

I have been using a plastic food storage container since it is just for me, but this mix would be a great gift in a decorative bottle or jar with a colorful label.

Just add about 2 cups of the mixture to your bath (more or less, depending on the size of your tub), and soak away. If you enjoy this mixture and take baths often, it is really easy to double or triple the recipe to suit your needs.

Happy soaking!
