I am in love with how quick these slippers worked up. It may have taken me three false starts to figure it out, but I'm glad I stuck with it!
I purchased this pattern from Tara Murray aka Mamachee after having good successes with many of her other patterns. This one was no exception. I did make one error that I should have caught - when finishing the slipper, the pattern calls for you to single crochet (sc) around the opening. When I read it, my brain translated that to slip stitch (st) instead. Oops! I was wondering why the opening was a bit snug. Even with that, I'm still in love with the fit and design of these slippers. I am already planning my next pair, and am excited to see how they come out if I am not being a ding dong, and actually read the whole pattern.
The bottom has a "sole" made of soft double crochets in case you were worried about stepping on the beautiful cluster stitches and how that texture may feel under your foot. No worries there at all - the bottoms are very soft. Comfy!
I used Vanna's Choice worsted weight yarn and one of my favorite crochet hooks from Crochet Lite. I am a huge fan of these hooks, especially for darker yarns since it makes it so much easier for me to see what the heck I'm doing. They are also great for me since I tend to do much of my crocheting in the evening, and the lighting in my living room isn't always the greatest.
I made the size 7-8 pattern for me, though I typically wear an 8.5 shoe. I tend to crochet a bit looser than Tara (she even mentions in most patterns that she typically has a tight stitch and gives a gauge guide to help). My feet are so happy, and not too hot as with some slippers.
If you have a few hours, and a skein of soft yarn, you should definitely try these out. I think they would be pretty in multiple colors as well.
Happy crocheting!
Those look comfy. Well done Mrs. Cleaver.
