Capturing Life

I recently bought a camera insert for the big purse I typically carry during the week. For those interested, I bought the XS Snoop by Timbuk2, and it has been great so far. My hope was that having my camera readily available would help me have more opportunities to capture impromptu photographs. I've already had three great chances opportunities to capture some inspiration and practice making setting adjustments on the fly. Check out the first one below. I captured this little beauty right after a typical Seattle rain.

While the picture strangely captures the framed prints on my office wall, and to some that would be considered distracting, I really enjoy how this came out. I love that the picture isn't perfect, but very accurately captures the moment.

The next one I captured from my car (at a red light). I was so surprised when I came up to the intersection and saw this lovely display.

And this one from my office building.

flowers in the lobby - love that bokeh
I especially like this one. There is a florist in our building who puts out the nicest arrangements in the lobbies of our building. I was walking out, and the only objective I had for the photo was to capture the lights on the trees outside with some serious bokeh. Now that I've looked at this photo on the computer, I'm thinking I will try again tomorrow with a better framing set up.

The point is, pictures don't have to be technically perfect to be great. My goal for the rest of 2013 is to just get more practice and capture the moments in my life.

  1. On the reflection photo, try using a polarizer. I have a circular polarizer on my lens which allows you to basically turn it off and on...you just twist it. It helps with water photos and takes the glare out of windows too.

  2. Good tip, Jenn! I've never even heard of that yet.
